WWE SmackDown Highlights: Cody Rhodes and John Cena's Epic Showdown

WWE SmackDown: A Night of Thrills and Surprises
This week's WWE SmackDown episode was filled with thrilling moments from beginning to end. Each superstar showcased electrifying performances, captivating the audience. The event also effectively heightened excitement for the upcoming Money in the Bank 2025. The main event stood out, featuring Cody Rhodes and John Cena as the focal points. Here’s a comprehensive recap of the night’s events:
Bianca Belair's Triumphant Return and Money in the Bank Qualification
Bianca Belair made a spectacular comeback to the ring, greeted warmly by the fans. Just as she began to speak, Naomi interrupted her. Bianca reminded Naomi of their past friendship but accused her of betrayal. Naomi retaliated with a threat before Jade Cargill entered, causing Naomi to exit the ring. Shortly after, Nia Jax made her appearance.
Following this, a Money in the Bank Qualifier Match took place featuring Naomi, Nia Jax, and Jade Cargill. The match was fierce, with Nia dominating for a significant portion. Naomi displayed strategic thinking by teaming up with Nia momentarily to try and eliminate Jade. The conclusion was chaotic yet exhilarating—after a top-rope powerbomb involving all three competitors, Nia aimed to finish off Jade. However, Naomi seized the opportunity and rolled up Jax for the victory, securing her place in the Money in the Bank match.
R-Truth vs JC Mateo and Street Profits Segment
R-Truth faced off against JC Mateo, who had Solo Sikoa in his corner. Although Truth had some impressive moments, he ultimately fell short against Mateo, who executed the Tour of Iceland to win. After the match, Mateo and Sikoa continued their assault on Truth until Jimmy Uso intervened with a steel chair. Jimmy sent Sikoa crashing into the ring post, but Mateo attacked Jimmy from behind, ending the segment with Mateo standing tall.
In a backstage segment, Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins of the Street Profits proclaimed themselves the best tag team in wrestling. They mocked The Wyatt Sicks, leading to a confrontation with Axiom and Nathan Frazer, who demanded a title shot. The Motor City Machine Guns and DIY also entered the fray, asserting their claims. Eventually, The Wyatt Sicks stormed in and took out everyone, establishing their dominance.
Triple Threat Match and Zelina Vega's Victory
A thrilling triple threat match unfolded between Los Lotharios, Rey Fénix, and Jevan Evans, who was making his main roster debut. The fast-paced action kept fans on the edge of their seats. Towards the end, Ethan Page, who was commentating, interfered, allowing Los Lotharios to clinch the win.
Zelina Vega faced Alba Fyre, with Chelsea Green and Piper Niven at ringside. In a surprising twist, Chelsea accidentally struck Piper, giving Vega the upper hand. She executed a Code Red on Alba Fyre to secure the victory.
Damian Priest and Another Money in the Bank Qualifier
Damian Priest delivered a promo reflecting on his recent victory over Drew McIntyre at Saturday Night's Main Event. He emphasized that despite his win, he still has unfinished business with McIntyre and is now focused on championship gold.
Later, another Money in the Bank Qualifier featured Jacob Fatu, Carmelo Hayes, and Andrade. The match showcased impressive in-ring action, but chaos erupted as JC Mateo and Solo Sikoa interfered to assist Fatu. Surprisingly, Fatu was displeased with their interference. Jimmy Uso entered and landed a brutal kick on Mateo. Andrade capitalized on the moment, knocking Fatu out of the ring, hitting his finisher on Hayes, and qualifying for Money in the Bank. Tensions escalated backstage as Fatu and Sikoa engaged in a heated brawl.
Main Event Segment: Cody Rhodes, John Cena, and Logan Paul Clash
Cody Rhodes returned to SmackDown, addressing his recent title loss and targeting John Cena. He expressed his desire for redemption and called out Jey Uso, who joined him in the ring. Shortly after, John Cena made his entrance.
Cena declared that only one WWE superstar embodies Hustle, Loyalty, and Respect – Logan Paul. He praised Paul and claimed that the audience was there for him and Paul, not for Cody or Jey.
Logan Paul then appeared, reminding everyone that five years ago, no one expected him to become a WWE star, let alone tag with Cena. He warned Cody and Jey of his intentions to defeat them at Money in the Bank. Jey responded eagerly, leading to an all-out brawl.
Cody and Cena fought in the ring, while Jey battled Paul outside. Cody executed the Cody Cutter on Cena, and Jey delivered a superkick to Logan Paul, concluding the show on a high note.
