Sai Sudharsan Prepares for England Test Series After Impressive IPL Performance

Sai Sudharsan Joins Indian Squad for England Tour

Sai Sudharsan is gearing up for the upcoming five-match Test series against England. The left-handed batsman showcased his talent during the IPL, amassing 759 runs with an impressive average of 54.21, establishing himself as a key player for the Gujarat Titans. Despite the team's early exit from the tournament, Sudharsan is already looking ahead.

The 22-year-old has been selected for India's Test squad for the series commencing on June 20. Initially, he was set to participate in the second unofficial Test for India A against the England Lions on June 6, but his immediate plans remain uncertain, especially with senior players departing on the same day.

Adapting from White-Ball to Red-Ball Cricket

With the fast-paced white-ball format behind him, Sudharsan is now focused on transitioning to the longer format of the game. Although moving from T20 to Test cricket can be challenging, he is hopeful that his preparation will facilitate a smooth adjustment and enable him to excel in India's red-ball matches.

Valuable Experience from County Cricket

Sudharsan shared, "We initially planned to leave for India on the 4th after the IPL, so we weren't considering the timing for India A or the Test team. However, now we need to discuss and see how things unfold."

"Having played seven matches in county cricket, I gained significant experience that enhanced my batting technique and fundamentals. It reinforced the importance of basics in batting," he added.

He emphasized that he would concentrate on applying what he learned and maintaining awareness as he approaches the series.

Impact of IPL on Batting Technique

"After an extensive three-month white-ball tournament, my batting has inevitably evolved. I believe that refocusing on the fundamentals and adapting them to red-ball cricket will require some time. Fortunately, we have ample time before the series begins," Sudharsan noted.

With prior experience in the English county circuit, particularly with Surrey, he feels that this exposure has significantly improved his red-ball skills, especially in adapting to the challenging swing conditions in England. He acknowledged that the technical difficulties faced there have reshaped his mindset and approach to batting.
