New Regulations for Cricket Teams

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to implement new rules mandating that all cricket teams must secure prior approval from relevant authorities before hosting any victory celebrations. This decision follows a tragic incident during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) victory celebration, where a stampede near the M Chinnaswamy Stadium resulted in 11 fatalities and left 30 individuals injured.

RCB celebrated their first IPL title after defeating Punjab Kings in the final held in Ahmedabad. Investigations are ongoing, and the BCCI has formed a three-member committee tasked with creating guidelines for celebrations following tournaments.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia stated, “The draft report will be finalized within 15 days, aiming for completion by June 30.”

As reported, the committee will require any winning team to obtain necessary permissions from the respective state government, including police clearance. Additionally, approval from the BCCI will also be necessary.

Following their IPL victory, RCB's celebration at Chinnaswamy Stadium, which has a capacity of around 30,000, attracted an overwhelming crowd of nearly 200,000, leading to the unfortunate stampede.
