Tamil Nadu Man Arrested for Raping 80-Year-Old Woman After Jail Release

Incident in Cuddalore District

A man, who was freed from prison just two days prior, has been accused of raping an 80-year-old woman in the Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu.

Accused Under the Influence

Reports indicate that the individual had been incarcerated for theft and was allegedly intoxicated at the time of the assault. A senior police official confirmed that a case has been filed and an investigation is underway, with substantial evidence collected against the suspect. Fortunately, the victim is reported to be out of danger.

Police Confrontation

During the arrest attempt, the accused reportedly brandished a knife, prompting the police to shoot him in the leg to subdue him. This confrontation resulted in injuries to two officers.

Gang Rape Incident in Odisha

In an unrelated case, a 20-year-old college student was gang-raped by a group of men at Gopalpur beach in Odisha's Ganjam district. The attackers had restrained her male companion, according to police reports.

Authorities have apprehended all ten suspects involved, which include six adults and four minors, as stated by the Superintendent of Police in Berhampur, Sravana Vivek M.

Details of the Assault

The Berhampur SP revealed that the incident occurred on Monday evening when the college student and her friend were at the beach. Around 8 PM, they were ambushed by ten local youths. While three of the assailants raped the woman, the others kept watch over her friend.

The victims reported the crime to the police after 10 PM, prompting an immediate investigation.
