Tharoor's Reflection on Party Dynamics

On Thursday, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor expressed that he has some differing views within the party and intends to address these with party officials. He emphasized that his recent discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi were strictly related to the delegation of MPs.

Tharoor stated, “Having been part of Congress for 16 years, I do have some disagreements that I plan to discuss internally. However, I prefer not to elaborate on them today. I will meet and converse about these issues when the time is right. My conversation with the PM was solely about the MPs’ delegation. It is our duty to support the nation when necessary. I am always prepared to serve when my country calls.”

Regarding comments made by Congress leaders about US President Donald Trump's remarks, Tharoor remarked, “Mediation suggests a balance that does not exist between terrorists and their victims, or between a state that sends terrorists and one that defends against them. There can be no mediation where there is no equivalence. We have made it clear that if Pakistan attacks, we will respond. This message was communicated not only to Pakistan but to the world, as seen in the daily briefings from the Indian government and armed forces. We have never needed persuasion to act. If there was any pressure from President Trump, it was directed solely at Pakistan, particularly General Munir. We appreciate any pressure the US may have exerted on Pakistan, but we did not seek it. Our stance was clearly communicated during our meetings in the USA. I can assure you that the Prime Minister's statements reflect the same message we conveyed. I personally engaged with the US Vice President on this matter. We have maintained diplomatic decorum in our public statements, but I can clarify today that there is no ambiguity within the US Administration regarding India's position on this issue.”
