SFI Protests Against Kerala Governor at Book Launch Event

Protest by Students' Federation of India
On Wednesday, members of the Students' Federation of India (SFI) organized a demonstration against Kerala Governor Rajendra Arlekar during his attendance at the book launch of '50 Years of Emergency' at Kerala University in Thiruvananthapuram.
The police intervened and detained several SFI members as they protested, causing a disturbance on the streets while chanting slogans.
Previous Protests Against the Governor
Just last week, SFI activists had also protested against the Governor, accusing him of taking an anti-student stance. This protest occurred during his visit for a senate meeting at the university.
The activists expressed their discontent regarding the installation of images of Bharat Mata and RSS ideologues KB Hedgewar and Golwalker at the Kerala Raj Bhawan.
Protests at Kannur University
On June 5, SFI members held a protest at Kannur University in Kerala in response to a directive from the Vice Chancellor to form a monitoring committee. This committee is tasked with overseeing the content of events at affiliated colleges to prevent the presence of anti-national elements.
During the protest, activists attempted to enter the university's administrative office, but police stopped them. In a symbolic act of defiance, they burned copies of the directive.
The university has issued a warning that strict measures will be enforced against any events deemed to include anti-national elements. The SFI protests are likely rooted in concerns regarding freedom of expression and academic independence.
