Government's Stance on the Murder Case
Meghalaya Minister Alexander Laloo Hek has labeled the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi as a 'well-organized and premeditated crime'.
On Wednesday, law enforcement officials reported that all five main suspects, including Sonam Raghuvanshi, have been remanded to police custody for eight days.
The minister emphasized that both the government and the citizens of Meghalaya demand justice in this case. He stated, “This incident was initiated by Sonam Raghuvanshi, and it was a calculated act from the start. They intended to eliminate Raja Raghuvanshi.”
He further expressed the need for a thorough investigation and appropriate legal action against the accused.
Family's Apology and Evidence Found
The Meghalaya minister expressed satisfaction after Raja Raghuvanshi's family issued an apology to the state government and police. Initially, the family had directed their anger towards the police and the local community following the tragic news of their son's murder.
“I commend the Meghalaya police for their diligent work in apprehending the suspects,” he remarked. “The accused will remain in police custody for eight days. I extend my condolences to Raja Raghuvanshi's family, who were understandably upset upon hearing the news of their son's brutal murder.”
Additionally, the police discovered a mangalsutra and a ring in Sonam Raghuvanshi's suitcase left at their homestay, which the minister deemed a crucial piece of evidence.
Background of the Case
Sonam Raghuvanshi, along with four accomplices, is accused of murdering her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, who had recently married and was on his honeymoon in Meghalaya. Raja's body was discovered on June 2 in a gorge near Cherrapunji.
Sonam was later located near a roadside eatery on the Varanasi-Ghazipur highway. Both Raja and Sonam, residents of Indore, Madhya Pradesh, had gone missing during their honeymoon in Meghalaya.
