Raipur Murder Case: Shocking Details Emerge as Accused Couple is Arrested

Arrest of the Accused in Raipur Murder Case

In a troubling development in the high-profile Raipur murder investigation, the Chhattisgarh Police apprehended Ankit Upadhyay and his wife Shivani Sharma on Tuesday night at the Delhi airport, where they were taken into custody.

The couple faces serious charges for allegedly murdering Kishore Paikra, a 45-year-old man with a physical disability, and attempting to conceal his body in a steel trunk filled with cement.

Authorities plan to present the suspects in court today to request remand for further questioning. Police anticipate that more shocking details will emerge in the following days, with initial findings suggesting a property dispute as the motive.

Kishore Paikra owned land that was sold for 50 lakh rupees, but the accused misled him into believing it was worth only 30 lakh rupees. Upon discovering the truth about the additional 20 lakh rupees, Kishore demanded his rightful share, prompting Ankit and Shivani to allegedly plot his murder.

They reportedly killed him, placed his body in a metal trunk, filled it with cement, and disposed of it in a remote area of Raipur.

Raipur's Senior Superintendent of Police, Lal Ummed Singh, confirmed that the couple was arrested at the Delhi airport after police tracked their movements using CCTV footage and information from local vendors.

Investigators traced the trunk back to a store in Golbazar, Chhattisgarh, where the shopkeeper recalled selling it to a couple matching Ankit and Shivani's description. Surveillance footage from the store aided the police in identifying the suspects.

The investigation began when residents of the colony raised concerns about the couple's activities. They had visited the area on June 16 to search for rental properties, and Ankit rented a flat the following day. CCTV captured them shortly before they disposed of the trunk on June 23, with one resident alerting the police after noticing Ankit's suspicious behavior while handling the trunk.

When authorities discovered the trunk containing Kishore's body encased in cement, the connection to the missing man became clear.
