Celebrating Ahilyabai Holkar's Legacy

On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a 'Commemorative Coin and Stamp' to celebrate the 300th birth anniversary of Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar during the 'Mahila Sashaktikaran Mahasammelan' event held in Bhopal. Additionally, he inaugurated the Indore metro and the newly built airports in Datia and Satna with a single click from the Jamboree ground in the capital.

While addressing the audience, PM Modi emphasized that these initiatives would significantly improve facilities in Madhya Pradesh, boost development, and generate numerous job opportunities. He expressed deep respect for Ahilyabai Holkar, stating that her name inspires profound reverence.

He remarked, 'Her legacy exemplifies how public determination can transform even the most challenging situations into extraordinary achievements. Centuries ago, during a time of oppression, she accomplished remarkable feats that continue to resonate with future generations.'

PM Modi highlighted Ahilyabai's efforts in safeguarding cultural heritage during turbulent times, mentioning her restoration of numerous temples, including the Kashi Vishwanath temple. He expressed pride in serving in Kashi, where she had made significant contributions.

Furthermore, he encouraged farmers to adopt crop diversification, a practice Ahilyabai advocated 250-300 years ago. 'To enhance farmers' income, she promoted the cultivation of cotton and spices. Today, we must remind our farmers not to limit themselves to just paddy or sugarcane,' he stated.

Ahilyabai Holkar is celebrated for her people-centric policies and her commitment to addressing economic and socio-cultural issues, particularly those impacting women. She championed women's education and their active participation in community life, supporting local weavers in producing Maheshwari sarees.

Her extensive contributions spanned infrastructure development, including water bodies, roads, and dharamshalas, as well as the revival of temples across India. The structures she established have left a lasting impact on the nation's cultural and spiritual heritage.
