PM Modi Virtually Inaugurates Development Projects in Sikkim

On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted a virtual ceremony to lay the foundation stone and inaugurate several development initiatives in Sikkim. During the event, he unveiled a commemorative coin, a souvenir coin, and a stamp marking 50 years of Sikkim's statehood. Although he had planned to attend in person, adverse weather conditions forced him to join the event virtually.

PM Modi expressed regret for not being able to attend but assured that he would visit Sikkim for the statehood celebrations whenever the government decides to hold them.

He stated, “I wished to celebrate this occasion with you. I traveled from Delhi early in the morning and reached Bagdogra, but the weather hindered my journey... However, I see a magnificent scene before me, filled with people... I apologize for my absence. But as the Chief Minister has invited me, I promise to come to Sikkim for the 50th statehood celebrations whenever the government decides.”

PM Modi Praises Sikkim's Democratic Progress

He commended Sikkim for choosing a democratic path 50 years ago and noted the significant progress made since then.

“Fifty years ago, Sikkim chose a democratic future... The people believed that when every voice is heard and rights are safeguarded, everyone would have equal opportunities for advancement. Today, I can confidently say that the faith of every family in Sikkim has strengthened... Over the past five decades, Sikkim has emerged as a model of nature and development... Many stars have risen from Sikkim, illuminating India's sky,” PM Modi remarked.

Focus on North East Development

PM Modi emphasized that his administration has prioritized the North East in its development agenda. He referenced the recent North East Investment Summit held in Delhi.

“In the last decade, our government has placed the North East at the forefront of development. We are committed to the Act East policy, with a focus on swift implementation. The recent North East Investment Summit in Delhi saw significant investments announced for the entire region, including Sikkim, which will create substantial job opportunities for the youth,” he added.
