Fact Check on US Military Action

Fact Check: Following the US's execution of ‘Operation Midnight Hammer’ aimed at dismantling three significant Iranian nuclear facilities, misinformation surfaced on social media suggesting that Indian airspace was utilized during this military operation. The Fact Check unit from the Press Information Bureau (PIB) has refuted these claims, labeling them as false. Various posts on X indicated that the US military had accessed Indian airspace for their strikes, with Iranian journalist Sahar Emami among those spreading this narrative.


Clarification from PIB Regarding Airspace Usage


On Sunday, the PIB Fact Check reiterated that the United States did not use Indian airspace while conducting Operation Midnight Hammer.


In response to the circulating claims, the fact-checking unit stated on X, “Numerous social media accounts have asserted that Indian Airspace was utilized by the United States to deploy aircraft against Iran during Operation #MidnightHammer. This assertion is FAKE ❌ Indian Airspace was NOT used by the United States during Operation #MidnightHammer.”


Additionally, General Dan Caine, Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, clarified during a press briefing the flight paths taken by US aircraft for the operation.




General Dan Caine also mentioned that Operation Midnight Hammer aimed to significantly impair Iran's nuclear weapons capabilities. He provided a comprehensive map and timeline of the strikes, none of which indicated any US aircraft entering Indian airspace.



In the wake of the US strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached out to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. PM Modi expressed grave concerns regarding the rising tensions in the area and underscored the importance of immediate dialogue and diplomatic measures to ease the situation.


In a post on X, PM Modi stated, “Spoke with President of Iran @drpezeshkian. We discussed in detail about the current situation. Expressed deep concern at the recent escalations. Reiterated our call for immediate de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward and for early restoration of regional peace, security and stability.”
