A Cunning Criminal: The Disguised Thief

The Mumbai police have apprehended a clever thief who executed his crimes while masquerading as a woman. Surprisingly, he possesses assets worth crores of rupees. The arrested individual, Ranjit Kumar Upendra, also known as Munna, hails from Khagaria district in Bihar.

Mastering Disguise: The 'Lady Thief'

Ranjit had devised a distinctive method for his thefts: he would scout locations during daylight and commit burglaries at night. His ability to evade capture was largely due to his disguises, which included salwar-kameez, sarees, or burqas, with his face concealed by a dupatta. He even imitated the gait and mannerisms of women to avoid drawing attention. After each theft, he would change his attire near railway tracks to hide his identity.

Months of Investigation by Police

According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Hemant Sawant, Ranjit had been successfully stealing for years without detection. However, his luck ran out following a theft in Malad, Mumbai, in March. After this incident, the police initiated a search and reviewed 100 to 150 CCTV recordings that captured him in women's clothing. Eventually, he was located in Malvani and taken into custody.

Extravagant Assets Acquired Through Theft

What the police discovered post-arrest was astonishing. A search of his properties revealed:

A residence in Mumbai

A lavish bungalow in Bihar

₹10 lakh paid in advance for land in Bihar

₹6 lakh advance for another house in Malvani, Mumbai

36 tolas of diamond-studded gold jewelry

1 kg of silver

A gold-melting machine

Burglary tools including cutters and hammers

Authorities stated that all these assets were financed through stolen goods.

Eight Cases Resolved, More Under Investigation

Following Munna's arrest, the police have successfully resolved eight theft cases. Investigations are ongoing to uncover how many additional crimes he may have committed and whether he had any accomplices. Officials suspect that several more cases could be associated with this cunning thief.
