Panesar's Insights on India's Bowling Strategy

Former England spinner Monty Panesar believes that India should consider replacing seam-bowling allrounder Shardul Thakur with Kuldeep Yadav for the upcoming second Test in Birmingham, where spin is anticipated to play a significant role. India faced a defeat in the first Test at Leeds, where the home team scored a challenging 371 runs in a single day.

Panesar stated, "At Edgbaston, India might opt for (Ravindra) Jadeja but should definitely include the X-factor spinner, Kuldeep Yadav... The Edgbaston pitch tends to turn slightly, making Kuldeep a valuable asset. He brings a unique quality to the game."

He further emphasized, "Kuldeep doesn't rely on turning tracks. His performance in the IPL demonstrated that he can bowl effectively even without excessive turn, challenging batters with his precise lines."

Panesar pointed out, "If Shardul Thakur is only expected to bowl six to eight overs, then his inclusion is questionable."

He added, "Kuldeep possesses a greater X-factor. While Jadeja bowls at a quicker pace, Kuldeep should be the primary attacking option. However, India tends to prefer a more defensive spinner, which might limit Kuldeep's role. If he is not utilized effectively, it could lead to problems for the team."

Panesar concluded by suggesting that India might field two spinners, with Jadeja taking on a defensive role while Kuldeep serves as the attacking bowler.
