Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder Case: Confessions and Investigation Updates

Confessions in the Honeymoon Murder Case

In the ongoing investigation of the honeymoon murder in Meghalaya, authorities have confirmed that Sonam Raghuvanshi and her partner have admitted to their relationship and involvement in the crime. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has rejected the victim's family's request for a narco test, asserting that they possess sufficient evidence for the case. Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem reiterated that the results from a narco-analysis are not permissible in court.

Details on the Narco Test

"They have confessed to the crime already. We have reconstructed the crime scene based on their guidance. We have gathered all necessary evidence, so I don't see the need for a narco analysis test at this point," Syiem stated. He emphasized that such tests are typically conducted only when there is a lack of evidence, and noted that the Supreme Court has prohibited narco-analysis.

Understanding the Motive Behind the Crime

The police clarified that the murder was not primarily motivated by financial gain. Instead, the officer indicated that the couple sought to eliminate Raja, who was obstructing their relationship and business aspirations. "They felt the need to remove Raja from the situation due to their relationship and the familial customs that required parental agreement. Thus, they decided it was best to eliminate him," the officer explained.

Ongoing Investigations and Evidence Tampering

The Meghalaya police are currently attempting to interrogate Lokendra Tomar, who runs an infrastructure company and owns a flat in Indore, where Sonam had stayed prior to her arrest in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. Investigators are probing the circumstances surrounding a bag Sonam left at the flat, which was reportedly removed and contained a locally made pistol, her mobile device, Raja's jewelry, and ₹5 lakh in cash. Authorities suspect that the bag's removal was an effort to conceal or destroy evidence, leading to charges against two individuals for tampering with evidence.

Sources within the police department have indicated that they have yet to recover the jewelry Sonam brought back from Meghalaya. Property dealer Silome James, security guard Balveer, and Lokendra Tomar are expected to appear in a Shillong court on Thursday, with both Silome James and Balveer being taken for further questioning.
