Fresh Snowfall in Kashmir Valley

The stunning Kashmir Valley has witnessed new snowfall overnight, particularly in the elevated regions such as the scenic Pir Ki Gali, which links Shopian and Poonch, along with the upper areas of Bandipora, especially the Razdan Pass. This beautiful winter landscape has led to the implementation of precautionary measures for travelers.

Due to the snowfall on Saturday, authorities have temporarily shut down crucial routes, including the Gurez-Bandipora road and the Mughal Road. Officials have suspended traffic on these roads to prioritize the safety of travelers. They recommend that the public avoid using these passes until conditions improve and the roads are confirmed safe for travel.

In response to the shifting weather conditions, a weather alert has been issued for the upcoming 24 hours. Meteorologists anticipate additional snowfall in higher elevations, with clouds and thunder cells forming over North Pakistan and moving eastward, which could impact many areas of Jammu and Kashmir. Residents in these regions should brace for thundershowers, strong winds, and potential hailstorms.

Daytime temperatures are projected to fall significantly, remaining 7 to 10 degrees Celsius below the seasonal norms. Those planning to travel to higher altitudes (above 3400m) should exercise extra caution, as the chances of further snowfall are considerable. Warm clothing will be necessary even in lower regions due to the significant drop in temperatures.
