On Thursday, Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar was visibly emotional while speaking to the media regarding the tragic stampede in Bengaluru. He expressed profound sorrow over the incident and acknowledged the need for the government to take administrative lessons from this event. Shivakumar criticized the opposition for exploiting the tragedy for political gain, stating, 'It pains me to see the young children affected. I have witnessed their suffering.'

Karnataka Home Minister's Statement on the Incident
In a related development, Karnataka's Home Minister G Parameshwara visited the site of the stampede at Chinnaswamy Stadium on Thursday. He clarified that the state government had not requested the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) or the Karnataka Cricket Association to hold the victory celebrations at the stadium. Additionally, he announced that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident.
Parameshwara remarked, 'We did not ask RCB or KCA to organize the event; they took the initiative themselves. The government felt it was appropriate to support this as it was a celebration for the Bengaluru team. I deeply regret that this incident occurred.'
Government's Response and Compensation Announcement
Earlier on Wednesday, the Karnataka government declared a compensation of ₹10 lakh for the families of the deceased in the stampede. During a press conference, CM Siddaramaiah stated that the government would also cover the medical expenses for those injured in the incident.
'A significant tragedy unfolded during the victory celebrations near Chinnaswamy Stadium. The government has announced a compensation of ₹10 lakh for the victims and will ensure free treatment for the injured,' the Chief Minister confirmed.
