Indore Woman's Arrest in Murder Plot

Sonam Raghuvanshi, a resident of Indore, was apprehended on Monday for allegedly orchestrating the murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, during their honeymoon. The police detained her at 'Kashi Dhaba' located on the Varanasi-Ghazipur highway, as reported by the Superintendent of Police in Ghazipur, Iraz Raja.

Denial of Murder Charges

As per a report from a local news outlet, staff at the one-stop center in Ghazipur indicated that Sonam has refuted the murder allegations. A staff member, who wished to remain anonymous, mentioned, "After regaining consciousness in the afternoon, she claimed she had been kidnapped and insisted that she did not kill anyone."

Family's Support for Sonam

Sonam's family has expressed their unwavering support for her. Her father, Devi Singh Raghuvanshi, stated, "My daughter is innocent. I believe in her. She would never commit such an act... Their marriage was consensual between both families... My daughter visited a dhaba in Ghazipur last night and called her brother... The police arrived at the dhaba and took her into custody."

Murder Plot Details from Meghalaya

I Nongrang, the chief police officer of Meghalaya, revealed that Sonam allegedly plotted her husband's murder in the picturesque town of Sohra, located in the northeastern state. He provided alarming details about the crime, which prompted a significant police operation across three states.

Arrests Made in the Case

Authorities stated that Raja Raghuvanshi was murdered by individuals purportedly hired by Sonam. Following the incident, she vanished but later resurfaced in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. She surrendered at the Nandganj police station after three suspects—Raj Singh Kushwaha (21), Akash Rajput (19), and Vishal Singh Chauhan (22)—were apprehended during nighttime raids.

Custody and Legal Proceedings

Officials confirmed that Sonam was taken into custody by the Meghalaya Police around 6:30 PM, and the legal process to transfer her to Meghalaya is currently underway. The three men arrested in Madhya Pradesh have been remanded to Meghalaya for seven days by a district court in Indore.

Discovery of Raja's Body

Raja Raghuvanshi's body was discovered on June 2 in a deep gorge near Weisawdong Falls in the East Khasi Hills district, ten days after he was reported missing. Raja and Sonam were married on May 11 in Indore and had traveled to Meghalaya for their honeymoon. They went missing on May 23, shortly after checking out from a homestay in Nongriat village, approximately 20 kilometers from where his body was found.

Identification of the Body

His family identified him by a distinctive tattoo on his right hand. At the crime scene, police also recovered a woman's white shirt, a strip of medication, a portion of a mobile phone's LCD screen, and a smartwatch.
