IndiGo Expands Fleet with New Airbus A350 Orders

IndiGo's Latest Aircraft Orders
On Sunday, IndiGo revealed its decision to order an additional 30 Airbus A350 aircraft, complementing the existing order of 30 units with the French manufacturer. During a press conference, IndiGo's CEO, Pieter Elbers, announced that the delivery of these new aircraft is set to commence in 2027.
Elbers mentioned, "Last year, IndiGo finalized a deal with Airbus for 30 Airbus A350 900s, which included 30 firm orders and 70 purchase rights. Today, we are confirming our intention to convert 30 of those 70 into firm orders."
He further stated, "We will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for this right now," as he formalized the agreement with Airbus. Earlier in April 2024, IndiGo had already placed an order for 30 A350 aircraft, with an option to acquire an additional 70 in the future.
IndiGo's Ambitious Plans
IndiGo currently has over 900 aircraft on order, with deliveries scheduled for the coming years. In June 2023, the airline made headlines by placing the largest single aircraft order in history, totaling 500 aircraft from Airbus. This has resulted in an outstanding order book of nearly 1,000 A320 Family aircraft, which are expected to be delivered well into the next decade.
These new orders are set to deepen the strategic partnership between IndiGo and Airbus, enhancing their collaboration in terms of scale and scope. With its existing fleet and the nearly 1,000 A320 Family aircraft pending delivery, IndiGo is strategically positioned to expand its extensive network and contribute to the Indian Government's vision of establishing the country as a leader in aviation.
