The Army's specialized teams are navigating unstable and high-altitude conditions to locate six missing individuals. The MoD stated, "Search operations are ongoing for six missing persons. Despite the challenges posed by unstable ground and altitude, specialized teams and equipment are actively engaged. The Army is committed: every life is valuable, and efforts will persist. #IndianArmy #SikkimLandslide."
Previously, the MoD indicated that continuous rainfall in Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, and Eastern Bhutan has led to landslides, road closures, and communication failures. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has responded promptly, clearing debris in Mizoram, restoring access in Sikkim, and maintaining the Koloriang-Lee-Sarli-Huri route operational in Arunachal's Kurung Kumey, while also reopening the Darranga-Trashigang Highway in Bhutan after a significant landslide on May 30.
"Working tirelessly in challenging conditions, BRO is ensuring connectivity, relief, and essential support. This reflects resilience and India's strong regional partnerships," the MoD added. The BRO has been proactive in addressing the impacts of regional landslides and road disruptions.
In addition, the Directorate of Public Relations, Ministry of Defence, and BRO teams have been working diligently in hazardous conditions to restore vital connectivity. Meanwhile, the Mizoram government has issued a notice advising dignitaries and officials to delay their visits to the state due to adverse weather conditions. This advisory follows several days of heavy rainfall that have caused landslides, mudslides, flash floods, and rockfalls across various regions of the state.
