Greater Noida West: Traffic Diversion Implemented for Six-Lane Underpass Construction

Traffic police have implemented diversions at Gaur Chowk due to the construction of a six-lane underpass, which is expected to last for two to three months. This project aims to improve connectivity from Greater Noida and Gaur City to the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, addressing severe congestion issues in the area. The underpass will be 700 meters long and is projected to cost around ₹92 crore, with a completion timeline of approximately one and a half years. Greater Noida West: Traffic Diversion Implemented for Six-Lane Underpass Construction

Traffic Diversion at Gaur Chowk

In light of ongoing excavation work for a six-lane underpass on the main carriageway of the Greater Noida West road, traffic police have instituted a diversion at Gaur Chowk, officials reported on Wednesday.

This road serves as a vital link between Bisrakh/Surajpur and Gaur Chowk. Both the Greater Noida authority and traffic police have redirected vehicles to the service roads.

As per the traffic police, vehicles traveling from Bisrakh towards Noida will be rerouted to the service lane, leading them onto the Parthala flyover. Commuters heading to the DME and Gaur City will need to make a left turn and execute a U-turn, respectively. Those moving from Noida to Ek Murti and back can continue as the roundabout remains open.

Ravi Kumar NG, the chief executive officer of the Greater Noida authority, stated, “With the commencement of digging at the main intersection for the underpass, a significant portion of the carriageway is now blocked for construction, necessitating traffic to be diverted to service lanes.” He also noted that diversions on the Taj Highway in the upcoming days should be considered.

Lakhan Singh Yadav, the deputy commissioner of police (traffic) in Noida, indicated that the diversion near Surajpur is expected to remain in effect for approximately two to three months.

He added, “Following this, we will implement a diversion from Gaur Chowk towards Ghaziabad as construction progresses. Additional traffic police personnel are being deployed to manage congestion.”

The underpass, measuring 700 meters in length and running parallel to the 60-meter-wide roadway, aims to facilitate direct access from Greater Noida and Gaur City to the Delhi-Meerut Expressway (DME), enabling vehicles to bypass Gaur Chowk entirely.

The project will extend 350 meters on either side of the Chowk and is estimated to cost around ₹92 crore, with a projected completion timeline of approximately one and a half years.

There is a significant demand for a six-lane route in this region, as traffic from Noida, Surajpur, Crossings Republik, and the DME frequently leads to severe congestion.
