Greater Noida West to NH-9: New Elevated Road Project Announced

Elevated Road Project Overview

A new initiative has been launched to construct a four-kilometer elevated road connecting the Delhi-Meerut Expressway and National Highway-9, starting from Ek Murti Chowk in Greater Noida West. This route aims to enhance traffic flow and provide seamless access to NH-9, thereby improving connectivity between Greater Noida, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Delhi. Currently, the stretch from Ek Murti Chowk to NH-9 is experiencing significant traffic congestion, compounded by the presence of numerous residential societies along this corridor.

Traffic Anticipation and Project Approval

With the anticipated opening of the Noida International Airport by year-end, traffic in this region is expected to surge. To address this, the elevated road project has been conceptualized. In March, the Greater Noida Authority Board sanctioned this project, which has an estimated cost of ₹400 crore. The National Highway Authority has been approached for its construction, and funding has been allocated for the preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR), which is expected to take approximately four to five months.

Project Specifications and Future Projections

The proposed six-lane elevated road will commence from a 130-meter-wide road, traversing through Murti Chowk, Shahberi, and Crossing Republic, ultimately connecting to NH-9 and the Delhi-Meerut Expressway. Projections indicate that the population in this area could rise to between 1.5 to 2 million over the next decade.

Funding and Connectivity Initiatives

This project has been designated as a 'Regional Connectivity Road', with plans for financial collaboration among Greater Noida, Noida, and the Yamuna Authority. However, insiders suggest that since the project falls under the jurisdiction of the Greater Noida Authority, there may be hesitance from Noida and Yamuna Authority regarding financial contributions. This elevated road is part of a broader strategy to enhance connectivity in light of the expected traffic increase following the Noida Airport's inauguration, which also includes projects like the Noida Expressway Bypass and the Chilla Elevated Road.
