England Prepares for Test Series Against India

As England readies itself for an exciting five-match Test series against India scheduled from June to August 2025, there is increasing hope regarding the return of two of their leading fast bowlers, Mark Wood and Jofra Archer.

Reports indicate that Mark Wood might participate in either the fourth or fifth Test as he recovers from a knee injury he sustained during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 group match against Afghanistan in Lahore last March. Following that match, he experienced heightened stiffness and discomfort, which has kept him off the field.

Fortunately, his rehabilitation is showing promising signs. Luke Wright, the national selector for England, shared an optimistic update: 'Woody has started bowling lightly, which is a positive development. He’s just taking a few paces, but it’s a great sign. He’s on the path to recovery, and if all goes well, he could be an option for the fourth or fifth Test.'

Wright emphasized the importance of daily progress, noting that Wood is 'doing well' and remains a potential late addition to the squad.

Jofra Archer Aiming for Second Test Return

On the other hand, Jofra Archer, who was absent during England’s recent 3-0 ODI series victory over the West Indies due to a thumb injury, is also on the road to recovery. He is aiming to return for the second Test against India, which is set to commence on July 2.

Wright mentioned that Archer is currently working on his match fitness by playing in second-team matches for Sussex, with plans for him to participate in the County Championship match against Durham starting June 23, coinciding with the first Test week.

'Joff is progressing really well. He’s playing with the second team for Sussex, and if he performs well in the Durham game, he should be available for selection for the second Test,' Wright added.

Despite the cautious optimism surrounding both players, England’s selectors are aware of their injury histories and are focused on ensuring a gradual return to form to prevent any setbacks.
