Elon Musk Criticizes Trump's Spending Bill as a 'Disgusting Abomination'

Musk's Strong Opposition to Legislative Agenda

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, has ramped up his criticism of President Donald Trump's legislative initiatives, labeling a significant spending bill as a "disgusting abomination" in a series of posts on the social media platform X. The tech mogul, who recently stepped down from his role overseeing government efficiency reforms, expressed his disapproval of the legislation passed by the House on Tuesday, stating: "This enormous, outrageous, pork-laden Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Those who voted for it should be ashamed: you know you did wrong."

Following his initial remarks, Musk continued to voice his concerns, asserting that the bill would "massively increase the already gigantic budget deficit to USD 2.5 trillion" and warned that "Congress is driving America towards bankruptcy."

The "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" aims to extend Trump's 2017 tax cuts while increasing military and border security funding. However, it also proposes cuts to Medicaid, food assistance programs, and other social support initiatives.

As per the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, this legislation could add around USD 3.8 trillion to the federal government's existing debt of USD 36.2 trillion over the next ten years. Currently, Senate discussions regarding the bill are ongoing, with Trump actively lobbying senators to back his extensive legislative proposal. During a briefing on Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt minimized the impact of Musk's criticism.

"The president is already aware of Elon Musk's stance on this bill. It does not alter the president's viewpoint. This is one big, beautiful bill, and he remains committed to it," she stated. Musk had previously voiced his disappointment with the spending package, highlighting concerns about budget deficits and its effects on government efficiency efforts.

After expressing his dissatisfaction with the spending bill, Musk announced his exit from the Trump administration, resigning from his position as a "special government employee" within the Department of Government Efficiency.

During a press conference in the Oval Office on Friday, Trump lauded the legislation as "an unbelievable bill" that "reduces your deficits," although he indicated a desire for "a larger tax cut." Musk did not revisit his criticisms of the bill during that event.
