Ahmedabad Plane Crash: DNA Test Confirms Filmmaker Mahesh Jirawala Among Victims

Tragic Plane Crash in Ahmedabad
The devastating Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025, has left the nation in mourning. This tragic incident claimed the lives of over 270 individuals, prompting authorities to conduct DNA tests for victim identification. Among those confirmed deceased is Gujarati filmmaker Mahesh Jirawala, who had been unaccounted for since the day of the crash. Police investigations revealed that Mahesh was last seen near the crash site shortly before the incident occurred.
His remains have since been returned to his family. Additionally, Mahesh's two-wheeler was discovered at the crash location. Initially, his family struggled to accept the reality of his death due to the fire from the crash, but the DNA results have now confirmed his passing.
Hetal, Mahesh's wife, shared her distress, stating, “My husband called me at 1:14 PM to inform me that his meeting had concluded and he was heading home. When he failed to return, I attempted to reach him, but his phone was off. After notifying the police, they traced his last mobile location to be 700 meters from the crash site.”
She continued, “His phone went off around 1:40 PM, just a minute after the ill-fated flight took off. His scooter and phone are missing, which is unusual as he wouldn’t typically take that route home. We have provided DNA samples to confirm if he was among those who perished on the ground due to the crash.”
The Air India flight, which was en route to London from Ahmedabad, tragically crashed mere seconds after takeoff, resulting in the deaths of 241 passengers, with only one survivor.
