Former South African captain AB de Villiers expressed his discontent with certain commentators who held a pessimistic view of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) bowlers during their IPL 2025 match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on May 27. He emphasized that the commentators should have acknowledged the challenging pitch conditions at the Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Stadium, which posed difficulties for both teams.

De Villiers stated, “Listening to the commentators last night made me quite upset. Their negativity towards our bowling was evident. They kept insisting that RCB's bowlers were under pressure and unlikely to cope, suggesting that the team was losing momentum. However, could it not be that the pitch was simply favorable for batting? To all the astute commentators out there, perhaps consider that it was an excellent batting surface?”
He continued, “They repeatedly mentioned how RCB's bowling unit was struggling. While watching the match, I realized that commentators often cling to a narrative. Yes, RCB has yet to secure a title, but it’s simplistic to keep saying, ‘Here we go again, the bowlers are failing,’ without a thorough analysis of the game. Rishabh Pant wouldn’t score 118 off 60 balls on a challenging pitch. All LSG batters performed exceptionally well.”
“While there were moments of subpar bowling, it’s crucial to view the overall context. Scoring 227 runs on a pitch that typically doesn’t favor such high scores indicates it was indeed a good batting surface. RCB remained competitive and demonstrated their resilience,” he added.
