Meghalaya Murder Case: Accused's Family Claims Innocence Amid Arrests

Family Defends Raj Kushwaha in Murder Case

In the ongoing investigation of the murder case involving Raja Raghuvanshi in Meghalaya, four individuals have been detained, including the main suspect, Raj Kushwaha. His mother has come forward, asserting that her son is being wrongfully accused and maintains his innocence.

Speaking to a news outlet, she expressed, "My son is incapable of such actions. At just 20 years old, he is my everything. He worked at the factory owned by Sonam's brother and is being falsely implicated. I urge the authorities to clear his name; he is innocent."

Raj Kushwaha's sister also voiced her support, stating, "My brother is innocent. He was not involved in any wrongdoing. You can verify with his colleagues at work. I only ask for his release; he has no connection to the murder. Both Vicky and Raj are my brothers, and they would never commit such an act."

Details of the Investigation

On Tuesday, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Rajesh Dandotiya provided updates regarding the murder case of Raja Raghuvanshi, confirming the arrest of four suspects.

The arrested individuals include Sonam Raghuvanshi, Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, and Raj Singh Kushwaha. The DCP noted that all four will be transported to Shillong after completing the necessary transit remand procedures later today.

DCP Dandotiya stated, "Currently, all four suspects are in the custody of the Indore Police Commissionerate. The Shillong Police have been conducting interrogations. The transit remand for three of the suspects was secured yesterday, and the fourth was arrested today. The Shillong Police will take all four suspects with them after the transit remand is finalized."

Background of the Case

According to police reports, Sonam Raghuvanshi and Raj Kushwaha are identified as the primary suspects in the case. The Meghalaya Police transported Sonam to the Phulwari Sarif police station in Patna, Bihar, after obtaining a three-day transit remand. On Monday, they secured the transit remand for three suspects involved in the murder case.

This incident unfolded when Raja Raghuvanshi was allegedly murdered during a honeymoon trip in Meghalaya, reportedly orchestrated by contract killers hired by his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi.

A senior police official from Uttar Pradesh revealed that Sonam was located near a roadside eatery on the Varanasi-Ghazipur highway. Following this, she was placed in protective custody at the Sakhi One Stop Centre in Ghazipur until the Meghalaya Police arrived for her transfer to a medical facility for examination.

Earlier, the Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Prestone Tynsong, confirmed the arrests of four individuals linked to Raja Raghuvanshi's murder. He mentioned that authorities are still on the lookout for one additional suspect. Tynsong noted that Sonam voluntarily surrendered to the police, and all apprehended individuals would be taken to Shillong for further investigation.

The Chief of the Meghalaya Special Investigation Team (SIT), Herbert Pyniaid Kharkongor, indicated that the post-mortem report revealed Raja Raghuvanshi suffered two head injuries.

Raja and Sonam, both from Indore in Madhya Pradesh, had gone missing during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, where Raja's body was later discovered.
