Details Surrounding the Incident

According to a statement from the San Antonio police, "Officers attempted to perform life-saving measures until emergency medical services arrived. Unfortunately, the victim was declared dead at the scene."

Following the incident, Jonathan's husband released a statement detailing their experiences of harassment. He recounted, "My husband Jonathan Joss and I were shot at while checking our mail at our former residence, which had been destroyed after enduring over two years of threats from local individuals who had vowed to burn it down. We reported these threats to the authorities multiple times, but no action was taken. During this period, we faced regular harassment from people who openly expressed their disapproval of our relationship, much of which was homophobic in nature."

He continued, "Upon returning to the site to collect our mail, we found the skull of one of our dogs and its harness displayed prominently. This caused us immense emotional distress, leading us to cry out in anguish. At that moment, a man approached us, shouting violent homophobic slurs, before pulling out a gun and firing. Jonathan and I were unarmed and posed no threat to anyone. In that moment of grief, Jonathan pushed me aside, saving my life," the statement elaborated.

He added, "Jonathan was my husband, and he filled my life with more love than most people ever experience. We were newlyweds, having chosen Valentine's Day for our wedding. We were in the midst of planning our future together. He was taken from me by someone who could not tolerate the sight of two men in love. I was with him in his final moments, expressing how deeply he was loved. To all who supported him, his fans and friends, know that he cherished you as family. My priority now is to safeguard Jonathan's legacy and honor the life we shared. If your concern lies in how someone copes with trauma or how loudly they express their experiences of injustice, then you never truly cared for my husband. Jonathan saved my life, and I will ensure to protect what he built," he concluded.
