Tragic Incident on Indrayani River Bridge

In the aftermath of the tragic collapse of a bridge over the Indrayani River, which resulted in the deaths of four individuals, a survivor recounted the chaotic scene that led to the disaster. The survivor, who sustained injuries, described how a large crowd had gathered at a single point on the bridge, ultimately causing its failure.


Speaking to a news outlet, he mentioned, "The bridge was overcrowded, and traffic was heavily congested with vehicles coming from both directions. The crowd's concentration in one area was a critical factor in the collapse."



He further elaborated, "As the bridge gave way, those in the middle were swept into the river. We fell onto the rocks below and suffered injuries."


Vikram Deshmukh, the Maval Tahsildar, confirmed that the injured individuals are currently receiving medical attention. He noted, "We have not received any reports of missing persons, but unfortunately, four lives have been lost in this incident."


District Collector Jitendra Dudi reported that the incident occurred around 3:15 PM on Sunday, with rescue teams mobilized shortly after. He stated, "A total of 51 individuals have been injured and are being treated across various hospitals, while four fatalities have been confirmed."


Three of the deceased have been identified as Chandrakant Salve, Rohit Mane, and Vihaan Mane, with one remaining unidentified. Dudi added, "A rescue team of approximately 250 personnel was deployed immediately, and we have successfully rescued around 38 individuals so far." He also mentioned that search operations are ongoing, as two individuals are still unaccounted for. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, currently in Cyprus, has communicated with Chief Minister Fadnavis to monitor the rescue and relief efforts.


The Chief Minister expressed his condolences regarding the incident, stating that he is in regular contact with senior officials, including the Divisional Commissioner and District Collector. He remarked, "I am deeply saddened by the news of the bridge collapse over the Indrayani River near Talegaon, Indori in Pune district. As per the latest updates, two individuals have tragically lost their lives. My heartfelt sympathies go out to their families during this difficult time."


Fadnavis assured that search operations are being conducted urgently to locate those who may have been swept away. He confirmed that NDRF teams are on-site and all relevant agencies have been placed on high alert. "Rescue efforts are being carried out with utmost urgency. So far, six individuals have been rescued, and 32 others are receiving treatment, with six in critical condition. The Divisional Commissioner is en route to oversee the ongoing relief and rescue operations," he stated in a post on social media.
