After several postponements, the mission is finally ready for takeoff. SpaceX confirmed via a social media post that the weather conditions are favorable and that all systems are functioning properly. This launch holds special significance for India, as Group Captain Shukla will be at the helm of the Ax-4 mission, being one of the four astronauts selected for ISRO's Gaganyaan initiative.


Shubhanshu Shukla: A Brief Background

Shukla expressed his enthusiasm as he prepared to lead the historic Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4) to the International Space Station (ISS). Born on October 10, 1985, in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, he joined the Indian Air Force's fighter wing in June 2006. With an impressive flight experience of over 2,000 hours on various aircraft, including the Su-30 MKI and MiG series, he is well-prepared for this mission.


Training and Preparation

In 2019, Shukla commenced a year-long training program at the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Centre located in Star City, Moscow. On February 27, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced Shukla as one of the astronauts undergoing intensive training for India's first human spaceflight mission, Gaganyaan.
