Ahmedabad Plane Crash: Gujarati Filmmaker Mahesh Jirawala Feared Among Victims

Tragic Plane Crash in Ahmedabad
The nation is in mourning following a devastating plane crash in Ahmedabad on June 12, marking one of the most catastrophic aviation disasters in recent history. Among the presumed victims is Mahesh Kalawadia, a prominent figure in the Gujarati film industry, known as Mahesh Jirawala.
Mahesh, a respected director and producer, was reportedly located just 700 meters from the crash site. His family has provided DNA samples to aid in the identification process, but official confirmation is still pending.
He was the founder of Mahesh Jirawala Productions, celebrated for its heartfelt music videos and regional advertisements. His film, Cocktail Premi Pag Of Revenge, released in 2019 and featuring Asha Panchal and Vruti Thakkar, was praised for its compelling storytelling and direction.
Mahesh was a dedicated family man, residing in Naroda with his wife Hetal and their two children. Hetal revealed that their last conversation occurred at 1:14 PM, shortly before the crash. When she attempted to contact him again, his phone was off. "His scooter and mobile phone are still unaccounted for," she stated. "The last location we could trace was not a route he would typically take home. It all feels so confusing."
In an interview, Hetal recounted their final exchange. "On June 12, Mahesh went to Law Garden to meet someone. He called me at 1:14 PM to inform me he was heading home," she shared. "I tried to reach him again at 1:40 PM, but his phone was off, just a minute after the plane took off from Ahmedabad airport."
An Air India flight tragically crashed near Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Airport during takeoff on Thursday. The aircraft was carrying approximately 242 individuals, and authorities are currently investigating the incident. Among the passengers were 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, one Canadian national, and seven Portuguese nationals.
