Kamal Haasan Clarifies Controversial Comments on Kannada Language

Kamal Haasan's Remarks Spark Controversy
Kamal Haasan, preparing for the launch of his film 'Thug Life' alongside director Mani Ratnam, has recently stirred controversy. His statement suggesting that the Kannada language originated from Tamil has led to significant backlash on social media, with some users calling for a boycott of his upcoming movie. In response, Haasan provided clarification regarding his comments about the Kannada language during a recent interview.
He stated, “What I expressed was filled with affection. Historians have educated me about the history of languages... I had no ill intentions. Tamil Nadu is a unique state that has welcomed diversity. While I acknowledge that other states exist, it is rare to see a Menon (MG Ramachandran) as Chief Minister, a Reddy (Omandur Ramasamy Reddiyar), a Tamilian (M Karunanidhi), and a Kannadiga Iyengar from Mandya in such positions,” as reported by a news agency.
Haasan continued, “Let’s leave these intricate discussions to historians, archaeologists, and language specialists. From a northern perspective, my statement may seem accurate, while from a southern viewpoint, it holds true as well. There is also a scholarly perspective to consider. This isn’t merely an explanation; love doesn’t require an apology.”
On the professional front, Kamal Haasan is actively promoting 'Thug Life', which features a talented cast including Trisha, Silambarasan, Abhirami, Sanya Malhotra, Ashok Selvan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Joju George, Nassar, Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, Rohit Saraf, and Vaiyapuri.
