Jeet Ganguly Reflects on the Creation of 'Hamari Adhuri Kahani' After a Decade

Jeet Ganguly's Insights on the Iconic Song
Jeet Ganguly, known for his collaboration with Pritam, recently shared his thoughts on the title track of 'Hamari Adhuri Kahani,' which celebrates its tenth anniversary on June 12. He expressed that some film songs possess a unique essence that feels divinely inspired. According to him, while musicians can learn to play instruments, the art of composition is a gift that cannot be taught. He regards this particular song as a divine blessing, stating that it was a spontaneous creation that emerged during a pivotal moment.
Describing the song's inception, Jeet recounted, 'As I listened to the narrative of 'Hamari Adhuri Kahani' alongside Mahesh Bhatt, I held a guitar. It was during this storytelling that the raga for the song struck me. Bhatt Sahab inquired about the raga, and the emotional impact of the song left everyone in tears. However, I felt a sense of apprehension as the song's conclusion was still unresolved. After returning home from the music session, I struggled to find the right way to start the tune. Surprisingly, the raga came to me in a dream that night.'
He continued, 'The initial four lines of the raga appeared to me while I was asleep. I didn't have any instruments at hand, yet the melody resonated in my mind. I woke my wife to ask for my mobile to record it, despite her confusion about recording at such an hour. I captured the raga, and it was well-received. The song eventually comprised three segments, with the first part becoming the final one, which was a source of stress for me. I cherish the moments at shows when the audience sings along, creating a sense of belonging. 'Hamari Adhuri Kahani' is a film and song that has received immense love and blessings over the years. As we mark this milestone, I pray for the strength to compose even more beautiful melodies.'
