Border 2: A Major War Film in Indian Cinema
In 2024, producers Bhushan Kumar, JP Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta announced the highly anticipated film Border 2, which is being hailed as one of the largest war films in Indian cinema history. This sequel to the iconic 1997 film Border boasts a stellar cast, including Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty, with Anurag Singh at the helm as director.
The production officially commenced in November 2024 and has been making steady progress. According to exclusive reports, Diljit Dosanjh is scheduled to start filming his scenes for Border 2 on June 10, 2025.
As per the insider information, Diljit will begin his role on June 10, portraying a significant character that adds emotional depth to the narrative surrounding the 1971 war between India and Pakistan. He will be filming scenes alongside Sunny Deol during the initial phase of production.
Sources indicate that Diljit will share impactful moments with all three lead actors—Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, and Ahan Shetty—and his character is expected to have a rich backstory. The insider noted, “Diljit has intense scenes with Sunny Deol and Varun Dhawan, as well as Ahan Shetty. His role comes with a compelling narrative.”
The production team aims to complete filming for Border 2 by August 10. Sunny Deol plans to finish a significant portion of his scenes by the end of June, while Diljit Dosanjh and Varun Dhawan are expected to conclude their parts by August 2025.
The filmmakers are targeting a release during the Republic Day weekend on January 23, 2026.
On another note, Diljit is currently finalizing his work on Sardaarji 3, while Varun Dhawan is set to star in a romantic comedy titled Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, alongside Pooja Hegde and Mrunal Thakur. Directed by David Dhawan, this film also features Maniesh Paul, Rajeev Khandelwal, Mouni Roy, Kubbra Sait, Chunky Pandey, Jimmy Shergill, and Rohit Saraf, with a theatrical release planned for October 2025.
Meanwhile, Sunny Deol has made a comeback to the big screen with his film ‘Jaat’, marking his first release following the success of Gadar 2.
