On Thursday night, music enthusiasts in the capital were captivated by a mesmerizing concert at the Stein Auditorium of the India Habitat Centre, featuring the internationally recognized pianist Ankita Kumar. The event, titled REFLECTIONS, showcased a thoughtfully selected mix of Hindi film melodies and Western classics, performed on the piano to evoke a range of emotions among the audience. The repertoire included joyful tunes celebrating various seasons, nostalgic pieces, and upbeat numbers that encouraged the audience to dance and leave with a sense of positivity.

During her performance, Ankita Kumar elaborated on the profound effects music can have on our mental and physical well-being. She emphasized how musical compositions can alter our mood and inspire positive thoughts if we allow them to resonate within us.
A Blend of Classical and Contemporary
To illustrate the influence of classical music, Ankita played Hindi film songs rooted in classical ragas, such as Jaago Mohan Pyaare and Rimjhim Gire Saawan. She also performed nostalgic tracks like Ek Ladki Bheegi Bhaagi Si. The Western segment included popular pieces like River Flows in You and Can’t Help Falling in Love. Accompanied by Jaideep Lakhtakia on guitar and Tulsi Madhva on percussion, the concert featured beautiful jugalbandis that enriched the listening experience.
A Distinguished Audience
The event was graced by Chief Guest Shri Shatrughan Sinha, a prominent Member of Parliament and film star. Other notable attendees included Shri AS Dulat, former RAW Chief, and Shri Neeraj Kumar, former Police Commissioner. Reflecting on the concert, Shri Sinha remarked, “Today, I experienced the piano in a new light, as a medium for introspection and emotional exploration. It’s remarkable how music can influence our feelings and serve as a vital tool for mental health amidst today’s pressures. I commend Ankita for her exceptional performance.”
About Ankita Kumar
Ankita Kumar made her stage debut in 2011 at the Stein Auditorium with her concert SUMMER SONATA, attended by then Chief Minister of Delhi, Smt Shiela Dikshit. Since then, she has performed over 100 shows both in India and internationally at prestigious venues, including the Indian Parliament and the India International Centre.
She has also brought healing through music to inmates at Tihar Prisons and has performed in various cities, including Pune and Bhubaneswar. Recently, she played for a full house at The Nehru Centre in London, showcasing popular Hindi film songs and Western classics.
Ankita has collaborated with renowned artists and has released two solo albums under T Series, titled Resonance and Melody Lane. She has received accolades such as the Sanatan Sangeet Sanskriti award and the Piramal Trophy for her musical excellence. Additionally, she runs a piano academy to nurture aspiring pianists in the city.
