Vietnamese Electric Vehicle VinFast Set to Enter Indian Market

VinFast's Entry into India
The Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer is preparing to launch its products in India. Ahead of the official release, several of its models have been seen undergoing tests. The company plans to introduce the VF6 and VF7 models. Recently, a VF7 was spotted on Indian roads, camouflaged for testing. This time, however, the VF6 was observed being unloaded from a transport truck.
Details of the Spotted Vehicle
The vehicle, painted in red, was covered with white sheets to prevent any damage during transit. Reports from HT Auto indicate that the spotted model is a left-hand drive, suggesting it could be intended for press or promotional purposes. Both the VF6 and VF7 are currently being showcased in various malls across India.
Specifications of the VinFast VF6
The VF6 is designed as a compact SUV, featuring a 59.6 KWH battery. It will be available in two versions: Eco and Plus. The vehicle is expected to deliver a range of 460-480 km as per NEDC standards. Depending on the variant, the power output will vary from 177 PS/250 NM to approximately 204 PS and 310 NM.
Advanced Features of VF6 and VF7
Both the VF6 and VF7 will come equipped with cutting-edge technology, including a 12.9-inch touchscreen, heads-up display, and eight-way power-adjustable seats, along with compatibility for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Safety features will include ESC, hill start assist, blind spot detection, automatic emergency braking, and a 360-degree camera.
VinFast's Investment in Manufacturing
VinFast has invested nearly Rs 2 billion (approximately US$2 billion) to establish its manufacturing capabilities. The Tamil Nadu plant in Toothikudi is slated to commence operations by June to July 2025. Initially, the facility will assemble Completely Knocked Down (CKD) units, with plans to scale up to a full capacity of 150,000 units. Additionally, VinFast is considering expansion into Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
