Kuldeep Yadav Shares Fun Moment of Taking Rohit Sharma's Spot on Team Bus
Kuldeep Yadav's Lighthearted Admission
During a recent press conference, Kuldeep Yadav, India's leg-spinner, humorously mentioned that he has taken over Rohit Sharma's usual seat on the team bus, now that Shubman Gill has stepped into the captaincy role. Rohit, who led India in the last two World Test Championships, has retired just before the new campaign begins. Kuldeep's new seating arrangement allows him to sit closer to the experienced all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja.
Kuldeep stated, "Uspe main baithta hu (I sit there)," referring to his new spot on the bus.
However, he quickly clarified that while he may occupy Rohit's seat, stepping into his role as a player or leader is an entirely different challenge. His primary reason for this change was to be near Jadeja, especially since Jadeja will have to shoulder more responsibilities in the absence of R. Ashwin. With Jadeja's experience in England, his guidance will be crucial, particularly since Kuldeep has limited experience in English conditions, having bowled only nine overs in one Test.
Kuldeep expressed, "I can never take Rohit bhai's place. It’s just that I am spending more time with Jaddu bhai. It’s important as a spinner for me because Ash bhai is not there. I have learnt a lot from him. When I started my cricket, I have played with both of them. Very lucky to have Jadeja as my spin partner. I am enjoying it."
As the team transitions into a new era following the retirements of stalwarts like Kohli and Rohit, the younger players are now expected to rise to the occasion. Adapting to the unpredictable English weather and the conducive pitch conditions will be a significant challenge for the batters. Shubman Gill's performance will be closely monitored, especially given his struggles outside India.
Kuldeep remarked, "When the seniors go away, their absence is always felt. Virat bhai and Rohit bhai have done so much for the team. They will be missed, but it’s also an opportunity for youngsters to perform well. But yes, I am sure everybody would be missing the seniors. But the youngsters are excited for the challenge. Batsmen are working very hard in the nets and preparing really well."
