Tottenham's Official Announcement on Postecoglou's Dismissal

Tottenham Hotspur has announced the unanimous decision to part ways with manager Ange Postecoglou, citing the need for a strategic shift rather than solely focusing on winning the Europa League. The announcement was made late Friday, confirming Postecoglou's exit after two years, with Thomas Frank emerging as a potential successor.

In their statement, the club expressed, 'After a thorough evaluation of performances and considerable reflection, we can confirm that Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his managerial duties.'

Postecoglou, who joined the club from Celtic in the summer of 2023, was credited with revitalizing the team's attacking style and leading them to UEFA Europa League success in Bilbao last month, a milestone that will be cherished by the club.

The statement continued, 'We are immensely thankful to Ange for his dedication and contributions during his tenure. He will be remembered as only the third manager in our history to secure a European trophy, alongside the legendary Bill Nicholson and Keith Burkinshaw.'

Despite the recent triumph, the board concluded that a change was necessary for the club's future. They noted, 'Following a promising start to the 2023/24 Premier League season, we accumulated 78 points from the last 66 matches, culminating in our worst-ever finish last season.'

The club acknowledged that while injuries and prioritizing the European campaign played a role in their performance, they could not let emotions from the recent victory dictate their decision-making.

The statement emphasized the importance of competing effectively on multiple fronts, stating, 'We believe that a change in approach will provide us with the best opportunity for success in the upcoming season and beyond. This has been one of the most challenging decisions we've faced, and we have not taken it lightly.'

They concluded by expressing gratitude to Postecoglou for laying a strong foundation with the talented young squad, wishing him well for the future and confirming that he would always be welcome back.

Details regarding the appointment of a new head coach will be shared in due course.
