Stellantis Group's Strategic Review of Maserati

Recent reports indicate that the Stellantis group is exploring the potential sale of its luxury brand Maserati, among other strategic options. According to sources, the company aims to revamp its extensive portfolio, which includes 14 different brands. Discussions regarding Maserati's future reportedly began prior to the appointment of the new CEO, Antonio Fliosa.

The brand has faced operational difficulties, and the introduction of new tariffs has exacerbated its challenges. Increased competition from Chinese manufacturers has pushed Maserati to actively seek innovative solutions to improve its struggling situation.

The report suggests that Stellantis is considering divesting Maserati, its sole luxury brand. Sources indicate that the assessment by advisers is still in the early stages, but a decision from Stellantis is expected soon.

Declining Sales for Maserati

Maserati's sales have plummeted by over 50% in 2024, reaching a record low of just 11,300 units sold, alongside an operational loss of 260 million last year. Currently, there are no new models scheduled for release, as the last planned launch was postponed by the Stellantis group.

It has become evident to Stellantis that managing and investing in such a large number of brands is increasingly challenging. Sources reveal that all options regarding Maserati's future are being considered, and no definitive decision has been made yet. Board members may be divided on the best course of action, with selling Maserati potentially being viewed as a viable option.

Given Maserati's rich automotive heritage, it will be intriguing to see how Stellantis navigates the brand's future.
