Rohit Sharma Reflects on Life's Journey and Retirement from Test Cricket
Rohit Sharma's Insights on Life and Regrets
India is currently engaged in a five-match Test series against England, where young talent Shubman Gill has made a significant impact by scoring 147 runs in the first innings. In a recent episode of the podcast 'Who's The Boss?', hosted by spin legend Harbhajan Singh and his wife Geeta, former Indian Test captain Rohit Sharma shared his thoughts. When asked about any regrets in his life, Rohit smiled and expressed that everything that has happened to him was destined.
“I have often been asked about my regrets in life, and I always respond that I have none. If I reflect on my life from 25 years ago, I can see where I was and what I had. I feel blessed by God. I never imagined I would be here with so many accolades. What is meant for you will come to you, and I am content with that,” Rohit Sharma remarked with a gentle smile.
Rohit Sharma's Retirement Announcement
Rohit Sharma, recognized as one of India's finest and most elegant batsmen, recently announced his retirement from Test cricket just before the squad was revealed for the England series. He has been a pivotal figure in Indian cricket across all formats. This decision followed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) naming a new captain for the Test team, effectively replacing Rohit Sharma.
Concerns Over Recent Performance
Over the past year, Sharma's performance has raised some eyebrows. During IPL 2025, he was designated as the 'Impact Player', which meant he did not secure a place in the playing XI, despite being the captain of the Mumbai Indians, a team he has led to multiple IPL victories. In IPL 2025, he scored 329 runs, including three half-centuries. However, his performance in Test cricket has been particularly worrying, as he managed only 31 runs in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
Shubman Gill's Stellar Performance
In the ongoing Test match, Shubman Gill, along with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant, achieved their respective Test centuries in Leeds during the first innings against England. India set a formidable total of 471 runs, with the last seven batsmen contributing only 41 runs. Ollie Pope also made headlines by scoring a remarkable century just before the end of Day 2. Jasprit Bumrah took three wickets, including that of the prominent Joe Root.
