Ravi Shastri, the former head coach of the Indian cricket team, expressed his admiration for Rishabh Pant following an electrifying innings during the first Test against England at Leeds. Shastri noted that Pant approaches the game on his own terms, likening his unique style to operating on a 'personal computer' that only he understands, highlighting the instinctive brilliance that defines his batting.
At just 27 years old, Pant delivered an impressive 134 runs off 178 balls, featuring 12 fours and 6 sixes, captivating the audience at Headingley on Day 2. His innings included a stunning paddle shot and a celebratory somersault after reaching his century, showcasing his characteristic flair and unpredictability.
This innings marked Pant's seventh Test century and his second since recovering from a serious car accident in late 2022 that nearly jeopardized his career.
Shastri remarked on Sky Sports, 'He (Pant) plays the numbers game beautifully, adapting his style as needed. He can defend for a while before accelerating his scoring.'
