Mishrilal Yadav's Disqualification

On Friday, Mishrilal Yadav, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) representing Alinagar, was disqualified from the Bihar Legislative Assembly. This action was taken after his conviction in an assault case from 2019 put his legislative position in jeopardy. The Vidhan Sabha Secretariat has released an official notice indicating that Yadav's disqualification will take effect from May 27, 2025, the date of his conviction and sentencing.

Background on Mishrilal Yadav

Mishrilal Yadav is a politician from Bihar who has now lost his membership in the Bihar Legislative Assembly. He secured the Alinagar seat on a VIP ticket during the 2020 elections. Reports suggest that he was one of three members who joined the National Democratic Alliance on March 23, 2022. Prior to Yadav, other MLAs whose memberships were revoked include Manoj Manzil from CPIML, Anil Sahni from RJD, and Anant Singh. Yadav was found guilty of assaulting Umesh Mishra along with his supporters in Darbhanga on January 29, 2019, and was sentenced to two years by the MP MLA court.

BJP's Position in the Assembly

Despite the loss of Mishrilal Yadav's seat, the BJP continues to hold the majority in the Bihar Assembly with 79 MLAs, while the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) follows closely with 77 MLAs.

No By-Election Planned

Reports indicate that there will be no by-election for the Alinagar seat following Yadav's disqualification, as the current term of the 17th Legislative Assembly is set to conclude on November 22.
