Madhya Pradesh CM Requests CBI Investigation in Indore Couple's Disappearance
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister's Plea
On Saturday, Mohan Yadav, the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, called upon Union Home Minister Amit Shah to initiate a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry regarding the case of an Indore couple, Raja Raghuvanshi and his wife Sonam, who went missing in Shillong, Meghalaya last month. Raja's body was later discovered, while Sonam remains unaccounted for.
Support for the Family
The Chief Minister expressed his solidarity with Sonam Raghuvanshi's family during this challenging time. He mentioned on social media, "Madhya Pradesh stands with the family of Sonam Raghuvanshi in this hour of crisis. I have discussed this matter with the Chief Minister of Meghalaya. Senior police officers of Madhya Pradesh are in constant touch with the officials of Meghalaya. I have requested Union Home Minister Amit Shah to order a CBI inquiry in this case. Every possible effort is being made for the safe return of Sonam Raghuvanshi."
Family's Appeal to the Prime Minister
This development comes after Raja Raghuvanshi's family wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging for a CBI investigation into the case. Raja's remains were found in a gorge in Cherrapunji, Meghalaya, prompting the family's request.
Details of the Incident
Raja and Sonam went missing during their honeymoon in the northeastern state, with the couple last seen on May 23. Raja's remains were recovered on June 2, while Sonam's whereabouts remain unknown. The couple's last communication with their family was on the afternoon of May 23, after which their phone was turned off.
Vipul Raghuvanshi, Raja's brother, stated, "We have written a letter to the Prime Minister requesting a CBI inquiry and submitted it at the commissioner office. We want the PM and Chief Minister to support us, and a CBI investigation should be conducted. It could bring justice to Raja and aid in finding Sonam. The Meghalaya police's efforts seem insufficient for justice in this case."
Response from Meghalaya's Chief Minister
Meghalaya's Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, expressed his condolences and described the incident as deeply unfortunate. He assured that all necessary measures would be taken to apprehend those responsible.
