Karnataka CM Forms Commission to Investigate Bengaluru Stampede During IPL Celebrations

In a tragic incident during the IPL victory celebrations of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, a stampede led to the loss of eleven lives and numerous injuries. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced the formation of a one-member commission to investigate the event and has suspended several police officials. RCB has pledged financial support of ₹10 lakh to the families of the deceased and is creating a fund to assist injured fans. The incident occurred near the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, where thousands gathered to celebrate.
 

Investigation Launched into Bengaluru Stampede

On Thursday, Karnataka's Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced the establishment of a one-member commission to investigate the tragic stampede that occurred during the IPL victory celebrations of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Bengaluru. He also took immediate action by suspending several high-ranking police officials.


Siddaramaiah stated, "We have appointed a one-man commission chaired by Justice Michael D'Cunha, a retired High Court judge. We have decided to arrest the event manager DNA and representatives from the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) involved in the event."


Suspensions and FIR Filed

The Chief Minister further elaborated that the police inspector, station house master, station house officer, and several other police officials from the Cubbon Park Police Station and the cricket stadium have been suspended immediately.


Earlier, an FIR was lodged by the Bengaluru Police against RCB, the event management firm DNA, and the KSCA Administrative Committee at the Cubbon Park Police Station.


RCB Offers Financial Support

In response to the tragic incident that unfolded during the celebrations of RCB's historic IPL victory, the franchise has announced a financial aid of ₹10 lakh to the families of the deceased.


The stampede, which occurred amidst a large gathering of fans, resulted in the loss of eleven lives and left numerous others injured. RCB expressed its sorrow through an official statement, pledging immediate support to the affected families.


The statement read, "The unfortunate incident in Bengaluru has caused immense grief to the RCB family. As a gesture of solidarity, we are providing financial assistance of ₹10 lakh to each of the eleven families of the deceased. Additionally, we are establishing a fund named RCB Cares to assist fans injured in this tragic event."

The chaos erupted on Wednesday near the M Chinnaswamy Stadium during the IPL victory celebrations, where thousands of fans had gathered to see their favorite players.


Chief Minister Siddaramaiah confirmed that the incident resulted in eleven fatalities and thirty-three injuries.
