G7 Leaders Address Middle East Tensions

As the pivotal G7 Summit unfolds in Canada, the participating leaders have released a statement regarding the escalating conflict in West Asia, reaffirming their dedication to peace while recognizing Israel's right to self-defense.

In their statement, the G7 leaders expressed, “We reaffirm our commitment to peace and stability in the Middle East. In this context, we acknowledge Israel's right to defend itself and reiterate our support for its security.”

They also highlighted the necessity of protecting civilians amidst the turmoil. Furthermore, the G7 nations identified Iran as the main contributor to instability and terrorism in the region.

The statement continued, “Iran is the primary source of regional instability and terror. We have consistently maintained that Iran must not possess nuclear weapons. We advocate for a resolution to the Iranian crisis that promotes broader de-escalation of hostilities in the Middle East, including a ceasefire in Gaza. We will remain alert to the repercussions for international energy markets and are prepared to coordinate with like-minded partners to ensure market stability.”

In a related development, US President Donald Trump departed the G7 summit prematurely, suggesting he is pursuing a deal with Iran to resolve the conflict. French President Emmanuel Macron informed reporters that Trump has proposed a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.

Macron stated, “An offer has been made, particularly for a ceasefire and to initiate wider discussions. If the United States can broker a ceasefire, it would be a significant achievement, and France will support it.”

Earlier, Trump took to Truth Social, urging for the evacuation of Iran and strongly opposing the notion of Iran acquiring nuclear weapons. He remarked, “Iran should have accepted the ‘deal’ I proposed. It’s a tragedy and a waste of human life. Simply put, Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon. I have reiterated this countless times! Everyone should evacuate Tehran immediately!”

The ongoing Israel-Iran conflict has now entered its fifth day, with both nations exchanging missile strikes. Civilians in critical regions are enduring relentless attacks. Reports indicate that at least 224 individuals have lost their lives in Iran since the conflict began, while 24 fatalities have been reported in Israel.
