Surveen Chawla Discusses Her Career and Future Projects

Do you feel your performances in Criminal Justice and Rana Naidu are underrated?

In response to that, I would say I don't consider myself underrated. My body of work speaks volumes, and I believe filmmakers approach me for roles they feel I can excel in. This reflects their confidence in my abilities, and I appreciate that trust from writers, directors, and producers.

Some fans believe your potential is not fully realized?

Ultimately, it's up to the audience and industry to assess my work. My goal is to deliver quality performances, and I am confident in what I bring to the table.

Do you think you are underutilized in the industry?

Yes, I believe I am underused. I would love to take on more challenging roles, and I hope filmmakers consider me more frequently. The directors I work with often return to me, which is encouraging. I focus on my work ethic and the quality of my performances rather than networking at events.

Are you satisfied with the work you are getting?

I have always made career choices based on my previous work. I believe that my past performances lead to new opportunities. However, I would like to see more challenging roles come my way. It's essential for creators to look beyond social media influence when casting.

Do you think social media has created a new type of star?

Social media should not dictate an actor's worth or talent. Unfortunately, it seems to influence casting decisions based on follower counts and engagement, which I find unfair.

Is social media popularity a criterion for getting roles in the entertainment industry?

Casting should focus on acting ability rather than social media metrics. Whether someone is an actor or an influencer, if they can perform well, they deserve a chance.

Do you consider yourself selective in choosing roles?

It's not about being picky; it's about knowing what to accept and what to decline. Over the years, I've learned to say no to projects that don't resonate with me. While I do seek out challenging roles, I wouldn't label myself as overly selective.

Can we expect to see more of you in the future?

Absolutely! The more quality roles I receive, the more you will see me, as I am eager for new challenges.

How did you prepare for Criminal Justice and Rana Naidu?

I don't follow a strict method acting approach. My preparation is more about internal dialogue than external techniques. I haven't trained formally in acting, but through experience, I've developed my own process. I focus on internalizing my character by revisiting the script multiple times.

Your character in Criminal Justice is quite complex?

My character, Anju, is indeed complex, but I wouldn't say she is contradictory. She is clear about her intentions and goals. I draw from my own life experiences to portray her authentically, which makes the process very personal.

What’s next for you?

Following the success of Criminal Justice, I have Rana Naidu Season 2 coming up on Netflix, along with Mandala Murders, a Yash Raj production, and Andhera on Amazon. I'm thrilled about this exciting lineup!
