Sunjay Kapur, a well-known industrialist and former spouse of actress Karisma Kapoor, has died at the age of 53 in the United Kingdom. Reports indicate that he suffered a heart attack while engaged in a game of polo. His funeral, initially postponed due to citizenship complications, is now scheduled to take place in New Delhi today (June 19). According to sources, the repatriation of his remains required additional documentation and approvals before they could be returned to India.


Memorial Service and Contributions

A prayer meeting is set for June 22 at the Taj Palace Hotel in Delhi, from 4 to 5 PM. Sunjay Kapur held the position of chairman at Sona Comstar and was a significant figure in the automotive sector. He also served as the Chairman of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Northern Region, overseeing operations in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, and three Union Territories.


Personal Life and Legacy

In his personal life, Sunjay was first married to designer Nandita Mahtani, but their marriage ended after two years. He then married Karisma Kapoor in 2003, with whom he shares two children. Their divorce occurred in 2016, yet they maintained a cooperative parenting relationship. Following his separation from Karisma, he married model Priya Sachdev, and the couple welcomed a son shortly after their wedding.

Just hours before his death, he expressed his condolences regarding a tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad, stating, "Terrible news of the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad. My thoughts and prayers are with all the families affected. May they find strength in this difficult hour. #planecrash."
